Description

ORIGIN A multi-district blend, South Australia. Barossa Valley, Coonawarra,Padthaway, Robe, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Clare Valley.MATURATION 18 months in American oak hogsheads 300 litres; 2030% new, 7080% 1- and 2-year-old oak, including barrels used for the previous vintage of Grange and Bin 707.FERMENTATION Stainless steel tanks with wax-lined/wooden header boards. Some components complete fermentation in barrel.Bin 389 is often referred to as Poor Mans Grange or Baby Grange, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, by the legendary Max Schubert, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds solidreputation with red wine drinkers. Combining the structure of Cabernet with the richness of Shiraz, Bin 389 also exemplifies Penfolds skill in judiciously balancing fruit and oak.On this page you can download the vintage release tasting notes and independent critic drinking recommendations for each wine, extracted from The Rewards of Patience seventh edition. – Penfolds
