Challenging, perhaps. Limiting? Only in a sense. The growing season was ushered in with consistent rains that fell through the Winter months deep into Spring and on into June. Cool weather led to a late harvest, welcomed by unexpected Fall rains. In the end, its a winemakers vintage where the skills and experience gained over many seasons of farming are put to the test. While yields were lower, and the resulting wines trend toward lower alcohol and deft tannins, the vintage offers fruit that in the right hands, such as those among the winemaking and vineyard teams here at The Hess Collection, results in wines with admirable structure and balance. Elegant and age-worthy, it is a vintage to remember for both difficulties and ultimate success.FOOD PAIRING Grilled meats, such as flank steak, or a hamburger with blue cheese. Grilled salmon.
