Description
It is among the hills of the
Maiella that the
Pecorino of the
Tenuta i Fauri is born. The company cultivates its vineyards in the southernmost part of Abruzzo—in the province of
Chieti—in an area that extends inland from the sea. The estate recently began cultivating Pecorino vines, a choice made by the young brothers who run it, so passionate they are nicknamed the Baldovinos. The company tends its vineyards halfway between traditional and organic farming, trying to minimize defensive measures as much as possible, since the vines already grow in a predisposed territory and a favorable
climate. Indeed, it is thanks to the Mediterranean climate, its warmth, and the sea breeze that the vines grow lush and healthy, and each plant sinks its roots into the clayey and calcareous
soil, thus managing to find an excellent source of nutrients. The vineyards extend over approximately 30 hectares and are cultivated using both the
pergola and the younger
spurred cordon systems. The Abruzzo-based company’s cellar is of an old-fashioned peasant style, yet perfectly functional: it combines old, renovated concrete vats with the latest steel technology and precious wood. This Pecorino is
vinified as a
white wine. After static decantation of the must and gentle pressing, the wine is aged in steel vats and bottled the February following the harvest. Those who have the patience to store a couple of bottles in the cellar will discover a youthful wine yet well-suited to
aging, a perfect expression of the character of the two Abruzzo brothers.
