Description
This Classic Cuvee is a barrel selection of Cabernet Sauvignon and a small percentage of other red Bordeaux varietals, chosen to reflect a Classic Napa approach to the vinification of this varietal. Grown predominantly on the Valley floor in the warmer micro-climates, the fruit displays a perfect balance of soft, ripe red plums and dark chocolate structure. This Cabernet Sauvignon an opulent, fruit forward representation that stays true to the classic Elizabeth Spencer style: balance, elegance, and grace.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Cuvée is a terrific value from this producer. It has a classic, very balanced, medium-bodied style that offers lots of red and black currant-like fruit as well as traditional Bordeaux-like notes of cedar pencil, tobacco leaf, and loamy soil. It’s nicely balanced, with present yet ripe tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish, all making for an outstanding Napa Valley Cabernet that competes with wines two to three times the price. It should keep for 10-15 years.

Sweet berry and floral aromas follow through to a medium-bodied red with aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, pine, licorice and dark chocolate. Firm, fine-grained tannins frame layers of juicy berries and chocolate.

This blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Sauvignon Blanc offers well-concentrated aromas of lemongrass, lemon peel and white peach, with a hint of crushed white peppercorn perking it up. It’s brisk and zesty on the palate yet broadened out by a creamy melon flavor. Shots of citrus and peppery herb lend depth, with a floral tone extending on the finish.
