Description
Bohigas Brut Rosat Cava is made from the little known indigenous varietal called Trepat, blended with a touch of Pinot Noir. Side note: if you ever come across a still Trepat, do yourself favor and try it. Trepat makes some of the prettiest, floral wines that I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The family-owned winery of Fermi Bohigas, whose origins date back to the 13th century, owns 240 acres of organically farmed vineyards in Catalunya. Don’t be intimidated by the color, it is a fairly dark-colored sparkling rose, which is done at the dry end of the Brut scale, with only six grams per liter of dosage (for Brut you can add as many as 12 grams of sugar). The nose is deep and ‘winey’ in style, offering up scents of cherries, a touch of blood orange, and a hint of dried roses… a tell tale of the Trepat.
