”History The origin of the Chateau’s name remains a mystery although it is likely to be a tribute to the Latin poet Ausone, a former inhabitant of the lands. Chateau Ausone is also believed to be the oldest in the area. One of its features is that only three families have been its owners – The Lescours family from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. – Jacques de Lescure and his heirs during the seventeenth century. The Chatonnet-Cantenat family from the the late seventeenth century to the late nineteenth century and since then the Dubois-Challon-Vauthier family from the same lineage. It is now nmby Alain Vauthier, who had been the vineyard co-director for many years, and who became its sole owner in 1997.Soil is composed of clay-limestone and limestone on calcareous asteria.Wine Chateau Ausone produces dense, powerful and exceptionally velvety wine.
