”TASTING NOTES Canoe Ridge Estate Cabernet expresses the uniqueness of terroir, year in and year out. The 2013 vintage, which was quite warm and early, intensified these qualities. Classic Horse Heaven Hills fruit flavors of cherries are expressed as ripe/dark cherries. Canoe Ridges elegant tannins are still fine and powdery, but with an added level of extract and density. A beautiful expression of Canoe Cabernet in a wonderfully warm and balanced vintage. Enjoy with everything. – Ray McKee, WinemakerVINTAGE * The 2013 growing season was warm and consistent throughout, perfect for the vines to ripen. * Harvest started early in mid-August and extended into early November as fall brought cooler temperatures. * The long, warm 2013 growing season resulted in beautifully ripe and balanced wines.VINEYARDS * Planted in 1991, the vineyard at Canoe Ridge Estate lies on a steep, wind-swept south-facing slope on the bank of the Columbia River in Washingtons Horse Heaven Hills AVA. * The sites proximity to the river protects it from temperature extremes, allowing uniform ripening and excellent color development. * Soils are sandy with bits of cobblestone and have low water-holding capacity, enabling precise control of vine growth through drip irrigation and canopy management. * The vineyard at Canoe Ridge Estate is LIVE and Salmon Safe certified.WINEMAKING * Grapes were sorted with a state-of-the art receiving and separation system that gently removes green material from the grapes, allowing for more pure fruit expression.* Daily gentle pumpovers during fermentation extract optimal flavor and color and minimize harsh tannins.* Each fermentation lot is tasted daily to evaluate the evolution of the tannins, modify extraction techniques and find the right moment to drain the wine off of its skins. * Aged for 22 months in 62% new French oak. ” – Chateau Ste.
