Description
Hershey Vineyard is DANA’s largest and most diverse vineyard site, planted to both red and white grapes. This 35-acre vineyard perches 1800 feet above sea level in the Howell Mountain AVA, where the soils include varying combinations of fractured bedrock, gravel, compressed ash boulders, clay, and white dust. The site’s diversity requires block-specific farming; pick dates are typically four weeks apart for red grapes. Fermented in single barrels to preserve each lot’s unique personality, Hershey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon offers elegant, linear structure with intriguing savory and mineral notes, and a layered complexity especially beloved by sommeliers.
Critical Acclaim
99 points Wine Advocate
Two wines that I did not see from bottle have turned out to be close to perfection. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard has unbelievable richness, a profound opaque purple color and enormous notes of lead pencil shavings intermixed with blackberry liqueur, white flowers and crushed rock. The wine is full-bodied and dense with moderately high tannin, but the tannin is integrated and silky. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and look for it to evolve for 30-35 years. (RP, 10/2016)

The aromas of tar, slate, and graphite with dark fruits such as blackberries are so prevalent here. Licorice too. Smoked meat. Full-bodied, very layered, dense and profound. Mouth-filling and structured. (01/2016)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard is a gorgeous Howell Mountain red. The first signs of aromatic development suggest the 2013 is approaching an early plateau of maturity, but there’s still quite a bit of tannin that needs to resolve. I would open this powerhouse Cabernet Sauvignon well in advance. Graphite, espresso, licorice, menthol and dried herbs infuse the potent finish with notable depth. (AG, 05/2024)
