Description
Hershey Vineyard is DANA’s largest and most diverse vineyard site, planted to both red and white grapes. This 35-acre vineyard perches 1800 feet above sea level in the Howell Mountain AVA, where the soils include varying combinations of fractured bedrock, gravel, compressed ash boulders, clay, and white dust. The site’s diversity requires block-specific farming; pick dates are typically four weeks apart for red grapes. Fermented in single barrels to preserve each lot’s unique personality, Hershey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon offers elegant, linear structure with intriguing savory and mineral notes, and a layered complexity especially beloved by sommeliers.
Critical Acclaim

Their Howell Mountain cuvée, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard looks profound. With great ripeness and seamlessness, and a huge core of massive fruit, this wine has sensational purity, full body, and a finish that goes on close to a minute. What is amazing with this degree of ripeness is that consulting oenologist Philippe Melka reported that there was absolutely no raisining of the grapes in 2015 and that the tiny yields provided a level of fruit richness largely unprecedented even in other great vintages. This is a beauty to drink during its first 20 years of life. The wine will spend 25 months in 98% new French oak. (RP, 12/2016)

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard (this is the coolest site they work with) from Howell Mountain has a slightly fresher, more black fruit-driven style in its espresso, crushed rocks, scorched earth, and chocolate-tinged aromas and flavors. On the palate, it’s beautifully full-bodied and rich, with a seamless texture, perfectly integrated acidity and tannins, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age but is another thrilling wine. (01/2019)

Blackberries, black olives, licorice and dark fruit. Full-bodied and layered with velvety tannins that are polished and focused. Juicy and gorgeous. (05/2018)

Dana’s 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard offers an attractive combination of the primary intensity of the year allied to the natural structure of Howell Mountain. Inky, deep and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2015 Hershey is super expressive today. Graphite, menthol, plum, lavender and pencil shavings add shades of nuance, and yet the intensity of the fruit dominates. I won’t be surprised to see the 2015 grow even more in bottle. This is a terrific showing from the 2015 Hershey. (AG, 12/2018)
