Description
At Duckhorn Vineyards we have been producing Cabernet Sauvignon since 1978. Bringing together fruit from Estate vineyards and top independent growers, this wine embodies the flavorful complexity of Napa Valley winegrowing, while offering a seamless balance between fruit, oak and tannins. To add nuance to classic Cabernet elements of currant, cherry and plum, the blend also includes Merlot, yielding a layered wine that is approachable in its youth, yet worthy of cellaring.2013 Harvest Notes The 2013 harvest was early, even and excellent with all of our Estate fruit in the winery by October 10th. A warm dry spring brought an early bud break and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. In the weeks after Labor Day, a moderate heat event followed by a period of perfect weather created a dream scenario for end-of-season ripening. Rain was not a factor, and for the second vintage in a row, the quality of the grapes was exceptional throughout Napa Valley.Comments from the Winemaker Both generous and graceful, this compelling Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of blackberry, fig, pipe tobacco and sandalwood. On the palate, a wonderful, layered structure that is one of the hallmarks of the exceptional 2013 vintage, underscores flavors of violet, red currant, cocoa nibs and graphite. The finish is long and focused, with a hint of vibrant red fruit reminiscent of fresh strawberry rhubarb cobbler. – Duckhorn Vineyards
