Description
Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is the product of a region highly suited to the production of sparkling wines.
Franciacorta is renowned for its extraordinary climatic conditions that favor vine cultivation. For centuries, wine has been produced here with excellent quality, bordering on excellence. Franciacorta is a wine-growing region wedged between the southern end of
Lake Iseo and the province of
Brescia. The ideal microclimate is due to the mitigating effect of the lake, which favors adequate
temperature ranges between day and night. The soils have a mixed composition of clay and
limestone. The presence of the latter favors the production of grapes that then yield a product characterized by high
minerality and
flavorfulness. Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut from the eponymous winery is born in this unique setting. The blend is composed of
95% Chardonnay and
5% Pinot Noir grapes. The harvest begins around mid-August with
handpicking of the grapes into crates to avoid premature cracking. During the
soft pressing, great care is taken to separate the free-run must from the second-pressing must. The free-run must will be used to produce Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut. The alcoholic fermentation of the musts from the two batches of grapes will take place separately until spring. At this time, after a series of tastings, the cuvée will be formed. The stay on the
lees will last approximately
30 months, at the end of which the
disgorging and the
dosing of sugars will take place to obtain the Brut typology.
