Description
Crafted by our winemakers best known for their artistry with mountain vineyards in Napa Valley, Hess Select wines are sourced from our family-owned estate vineyards and from grower families who share our sustainable farming philosophy.MONTEREY CHARDONNAY Montereys cooling fog and Pacific coastal breezes, drawn across the Gabilan Mountains into the Salinas Valley, create an ideal climate for growing Chardonnay, yielding wines with tantalizing tropical notes and crisp acidity. Moderate temperatures lengthen the growing season, allowing fruit to evolve with layers of distinct Central Coast flavors. This wine comes from our 352-acre Shirtail Creek estate vineyard in Monterey.TASTE WITH THE WINEMAKER To be honest, we think were on to something with our Hess Select Chardonnay, and we can tell that you think we are too. Its a new look take on the most popular wine around, something that tastes good on its own, paired simply with appetizers, or with a variety of meals, prepared at home or out for date night. Crisp and clean, bright with wonderfully balanced acidity and the signature flavors of Monterey, including lemon-lime and a touch of apple. A touch tropical, or maybe thats just how it makes you feel, a wine that can bring a smile, a dependable friend at the end of a full day.2013 VINTAGE Following closely the pattern of vintage 2012, the growing season was marked in Monterey by healthy winter rains and an uneventful spring and relatively cool and constant summer season. A lack of heat spikes or overly drying winds set the stage for an early harvest. Wonderful structure, crisp and clean acids are the hallmark of vintage 2013, along with fruit that was fully ripe with complete flavor maturity. Weve been blessed, yet again.FOOD PAIRING This wines natural acidity complements tangy, spicy foods and shows well with the richness of creamier dishes. Enjoy with Asian chicken salad, grilled albacore tuna with melted anchovy butter and lemon, or a creamy pasta dish with Portobello mushrooms.ELEVAGE Fermentation 44% neutral barrel, 56% stainless 30% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Aged eight months in 30% new French oak, balance in neutral oak – The Hess Collection
