Description
We are in Pianello, Umbria, but the story of Giovanni Mesina and his wines begins in Sardinia, where his family comes from, having moved here in the 60s. Growing up on the rugged terrain of Sardinia’s Barbagia Mountains, Giovanni Mesina moved with his family to Umbria in search of more peaceful pastures, initially to watch over his sheep (Giovanni is a shepherd) and produce cheese but now, guided by the hand of Danilo Marcucci, Giovanni also begins to produce wine. Located on the rolling hills of Pianello north of Perugia and with an area of less than three hectares of vines, a mix of red varieties typical of the region including the cilliegolo and its favorite white variety from Sardinia, Vermentino. Produced in a strictly natural way with a minimalist approach in the cellar “to capture the magical expression of the fruit and the earth”, Giovanni’s wines are incredibly special, from the labels (all made from the grass) to the juice itself: expertly balanced.
Trebbiozzo is a wine refermented by Giovanni Mesina’s winery from Trebbiano grapes, primary fermentation in open-air resin tanks before aging in fiberglass until February. Subsequently, natural refermentation in the bottle with frozen must of the same wine. No addition of sulphur dioxide.
