Description
With Rome as its cultural, political and historical epicenter, Lazio has been a picturesque agricultural area around a metropolis for millennia. A land of shepherds and farmers, the Lazio countryside is rich in produce and livestock, but it was not until 2008 that the denomination had its first DOCG wine.
This designation went to wines made from the Cesanese grape in Piglio. The L’Olivella vineyard is of volcanic origin, rich in potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. The vineyard is located on a hilly terrain, well exposed and ventilated.
The L’Olivella Cesanese is a 100% Cesanese from L’Olivella – one of the most beautiful wineries in Lazio. After manual picking, the grapes are destemmed. The fermentation lasts about 15 days at a controlled temperature of 30/32° C. The wine is decanted twice, again coming into contact with the lees for a few days. After being decanted, the wine is kept for 12 months in steel barrels and later in wood and finally the wine is also given a further 6 months of bottle aging. The Cesanese has a ruby red color in the gals with garnet shades. In the nose, the wine is ethereal, with light vanilla perfumes, intense and elegant, with the spices and the red and dark fruit beautifully reinforcing each other. The wine is full bodied, dry, warm with a spicy aftertaste
