Description
The Wine This lush Chardonnay showcases tropical fruit flavors of ripe pineapple, pears and apples. The wine finishes softly with a touch of creamy oak.The Year Temperate weather patterns from winter through spring left most vineyards in good condition for the 2013 growing season. The summer of 2013 was one of the warmest in the past decade with favorable temperature conditions extending into fall. Accelerated ripening due to the warm season was slowed by cooler temperatures and light rain events mid-September. The timing and changes in temperatures aided in hang time development resulting in stellar fruit characters and flavors. How We Made It We started picking the Chardonnay grapes early in October when they were bursting with flavor intensity. To get all of the fantastic juice out, we pressed the berries, and then inoculated it with yeast to initiate fermentation. About 60% of the wine was barrel fermented in French and American oak for six months; the remaining 40% in stainless steel. What It’s Good With Try this Chardonnay with rich foods, cream sauces, mushroom sauces and tropical fruit salsas. It also pairs well with seafood such as lobster, crab cakes and scallops, as well as chicken or grilled pork chops. – Red Diamond Winery
