A single inexpensive option usually represents the Prosecco category because drinkers have to come to expect a particular flavor and price. However, it is worth seeking out family made, small production Italian bubbly. Vigna Belvedere is anything but a standard mass-produced co-op Prosecco. Out of 44 total acres in Pordenone (Friuli-Venezia Giulia), only 17 acres – not 170, 1,700, or 17,000 – are planted with four clones of Glera for three different Prosecco. When you need a celebratory toast or something to make Mimosas, by all means, buy basic Prosecco, but the Fracca family wants you to imagine yourself on a gondola or in a fine restaurant in Venice (about 30 miles south-west) as you’re sipping their terroir-infused Extra-Dry. You don’t get the same effect with the cheap stuff.
Flavor Profile: “Extra Dry” means there’s a tad more residual sugar than Brut, but Belvedere is still dry. Straw yellow color with pear and peach on the nose and palate. Acidity and bubbles perfectly balance tropical notes on a soft, fruity finish. Pair with antipasto, fish or vegetable courses, not-too-sweet desserts, or enjoy as an aperitif.
