Description
The
Romigberg Vernatsch Schiava is produced in the
Alois Lageder cellars, southwest of
Lake Caldaro, in the beautiful valley of the province of
Bolzano. The estate is in perfect
cohesion with the
territory and all the crops are completely
biodynamic, with
anthroposophic principles. The aim is to combine the
scientific reality with the
spiritual dimension and make the farm an organic microcosm where man and nature coexist and enrich each other. To achieve this goal, Alois Lageder has undertaken two projects. the
Grandorto project, to allow various crops to coexist in addition to viticulture, with the aim of having a
responsible and forward-looking
agriculture, and the
Buoi project, which, with the aim of creating an ecosystem that unites man with flora and fauna, allows oxen to graze in the open air all year round, which among other benefits increases the
fertility of the
vineyards.
In full ecological spirit, the estate has created the
Capolavori collection, in which we can find the
Alois Lageder Romigberg Vernatsch Schiava, with the aim of producing
very high quality wines, thanks to the biological-dynamic method and the essential role of the winemaker who identifies himself as a mediator of the microcosm. Made exclusively from
Schiava grapes, grown in
clayey soils with moraine deposits, perfect for rich, long-lived wines. The grapes are harvested between late August and early September.
Spontaneous fermentation, meaning without the addition of external yeasts, takes place in steel and wood. Maceration occurs partly post-fermentation with the skins and stems in large barrels, followed by bottle aging for several months. Romigberg Vernatsch Schiava has good aging potential, can be up to 5 years, and is medium-bodied and fruity, demonstrating that organic cultivation does not detract from a wine’s quality and value.
