Barolo is a still red Piedmontese wine from the
La Morra area in the province of Cuneo. The producing winery,
Bartolo Mascarello, is located in the Langhe hills at an altitude of between 400 and 900 meters above sea level. The winery’s history dates back to the First World War, when Giulio, Bartolo’s father and a war veteran, returned to his homeland and decided to open the winery. Barolo, which has received the Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG), is aged for three years in oak or chestnut barrels. Before triumphing on the table with its characteristic robust yet velvety flavor and its ethereal and intense aroma, it spends several months in the cellar refinement in the bottle. The Bartolo Mascarello winery is keen to point out, through a note on the label, that the aging and refining period of the wine takes place strictly not in barriques, but in large barrels.
