Description
Benjamín Romeo is a great winegrower, winemaker and winemaker from La Rioja, producer of several of the most sought-after wines in recent years, obtaining the 100 Parker points two consecutive years -2004 and 2005- from his famous Contador.
In 1995 he founded the Contador winery, in a century-old cave under the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (DOCa La Rioja). Benjamin has more than fifty plots with different soils, microclimates, orientations, altitudes, varieties and clones, which allow him to obtain wines of great complexity. He takes care of each process down to the smallest detail, taking care of the vineyards, the production and even the labelling.
The first vintages of the Cueva del Contador and Contador took place in the small century-old cave where the winery is located.
In the past, these caves were used to store and preserve wines. The name “Contador” comes from the person who sat at the entrance of the cave and literally counted the wine that came in, transported, at that time, on goat skins.
La Cueva del Contador is a single varietal of the Tempranillo variety, a grape from 7 small plots owned by the winery located in the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Ábalos.
Different clay-calcareous soils together with different orientations, altitudes and microclimates that allow the production of a very complex wine.
La Cueva del Contador is a complex, deep wine. A modern Rioja, very expressive of the terroir.
