Description

A renowned 18th Century property, Chateau Branon is situated in the heart of Leognan on a gravel slope, oriented toward the South-South West.  It gives rise to a uniquely elegant and complex red wine.  The remains of the castle and the wineries contain one of the the oldest stone wine presses of the Gironde region which confirms its remarkable past.  Another indication suggesting the quality of the cru, is the wine trading company Scroder and Schyler who used to sell the wine in 1865 at the price of a Fourth Cru Classe in 1855.

It is above all, the diversity of the soils, from complex gravel to clay and gravel sub soils, that testify to the presence of streams from the Garonne running down from the Pyrenees, that creates its unique character.

For 15 years now, the Garcin family have been concentrating their efforts on creating a precise and rare wine, in line with the quality of its terroir.  Driven by the same team as Chateau Haut-Bergey, Chateau Branon benefits from the same organic and biodynamic certifications.

Originated from old parcels of wine producing grapes, Chateau Branon follows the pure tradition of great wines, worthy of their terroir.  the cru embodies the purest expression of very old vines, posessing a naturally exceptional concentration.  It benefits from the aging and maceration barrels and it is then matured further in 100% new barrels.

RP98Robert Parker’s Wine AdvocateThis magnificent, dense plum/purple-colored Pessac-Leognan reveals notes of scorched earth, burning embers, blackberries and truffles. Composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from a vineyard gorgeously situated between Malartic Lagraviere and Haut-Bailly, it possesses full-bodied power, a stunningly intense, voluptuous, layered mouthfeel and abundant levels of fruit, glycerin and tannin. The 2009 ranks alongside the magnificent 2000, which is aging at a glacial pace. Unfortunately, proprietress Helene Garcin only produces around 500 cases of this somewhat cult-ish Pessac-Leognan. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040.WS94Wine SpectatorThis smolders beautifully from start to finish, showing warm tar, tobacco leaf and steeped black currant fruit, with hints of hot stone and graphite buried deeply on the finish. Deep and long, with lots of character still to emerge. Best from 2016 through 2026.
