Description
Barbera d’Asti L’Avvocata is a still red wine produced in the Coppo winery, with a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin. It is made in the Piedmont region, in the southern Asti area, in the municipality of Canelli. The name derives from the first owner of the vineyards, a lawyer. The history of
Barbera d’Asti is extremely ancient, with historical references to it appearing as early as the 17th century. Subsequently, in 1798, it was officially included in the list of Piedmontese grape varieties when the first Ampelography was created by Count Nuvolone of the Agricultural Society of Turin.
Barbera d’Asti L’Avvocata is produced only using grapes from
100% Barbera vines. They are grown in a low-lying hilly area—in fact, it ranges between 150 and 400 meters above sea level. The exposure is south-southwest, while the climate is generally temperate, sometimes warm-temperate. It is not very windy, and average annual rainfall is about 700 millimeters. The soil is characterized by a calcareous marl composition. The grapes used to make this wine have a very intense blue color, a juicy consistency, and a rather acidic flavor. The wine is aged in large oak barrels to mellow its flavor.
